Attend a SeminarInformation Sessions and Support GroupsAnyone contemplating bariatric surgery is encouraged to be proactive in learning about the benefits and risks of these potentially life–saving procedures. Plaza Medical Center hosts and coordinates free information sessions for prospective bariatric patients two Wednesday evenings each month. Attendees learn about both Roux–en–Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding – two of the most popular approaches to weight–loss surgery. Support–group meetings for those who have undergone bariatric surgery are also offered, usually on the first Thursday of the month. They are a place to hear what other bariatric patients have to say and receive the encouragement of peers in making needed lifestyle changes. Both the free information sessions and the support–group meetings take place in Classroom A/B on Plaza’s first floor. The hospital is located at 900 Eighth Ave. in the heart of Fort Worth’s medical district. It is suggested that prospective patients bring to the information sessions the family members and other loved ones who will form their primary support system following surgery. It is a requirement that prospective patients attend at least two meetings before having any sort of bariatric procedure. Attending one prior to the initial office visit is recommended. To register for one of the free information sessions, please call Shante’ Legington, RN, CBN, Plaza’s bariatric services coordinator, at 817–347–1129, or e–mail her at shante.legington@hcahealthcare.com.
